well, will the fuel pump make your car turn off while driving? i was at a stop sign, pulled off..then the engine stalled and turned off.

A non functioning fuel pump means your engine won't run.

The oil light being on after a failed start is totally normal, and engine can't hold oil pressure if it isn't running. As for the fuel pump, if you don't hear it running, check the fuse/relay first. One of those could have gone out (I'm not exactly sure how the fuel pump circuit is set up on a 2005 E46, someone else could chime in with more detail if needed).
