Ford F-150 (2001) door check device: how do I gain access to back of door jam to remove and replace a front door check apparatus?

Asked by ScrollDoug Mar 30, 2015 at 05:57 PM about the 2011 Ford F-150 XL SuperCrew LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The passenger side front door check apparatus no longer prevents the door from fully opening, allowing the door to hit nearby objects or other vehicles.  I have purchased the part but have been unsuccessful in gaining access to the area behind the door jam.  I have tried removal of the interior kick panel and the fender well splash panel but have not gained access through either of these areas.

I see the problem, but I am guessing at a probably solution. My 2004 appears to be the same setup as your 2001, as far as the photo goes. Looking at mine you may be able to access the inside by removing the glove box and reaching behind. Or, removing the electrical boot a couple of inches below the device may allow you to get in with the new part .
