2011 Ford Ranger says it’s in 4wd, but it’s not.

I parked it in 4wd High, went back to it and turned
the knob to 2wd. I didn’t hear it switch out of 4wd,
but only the back wheels are pulling. The yellow
“4x4” light on the dash is still illuminated though...
any ideas?

While it's running switch it to 4x4 then move forward switch it out of 4x4 and back up at least 15 feet
