So I bought a new battery for my car. Gauges, lights, display is all in working order. When I start the car everything is good except it will not go into gear. Is there some sort of override switch?

Check your brake lights. Some vehicles will not come out of park unless all of the brake lights are working.

If you removed the old battery, it may have triggered your security feature. Do you see any flashing light indicating any security issue? Check owners manual on the security system. If no security issues, then the other common problem with your model is a broken O-ring inside of the shifter. It breaks and jams it up. I think the floor shifter has to be replaced. Some guys remove the knob, hit the brake, and pound the shifter with a rubber mallet to get it out of park. That's just to be able to remove everything to get down inside. Check the forums if you plan on fixing yourself.
