Your taking a chance of ruining the motor if your not sure if the oil light is faulty.

the check engine light went on after hitting a pothole,so when i diagnose the car it says thermal oil level sensor faulty

If you hit pot hole,and it came on,more than likely,loose wire at sending unit,or it went bad from the jolt of the pot hole,but anyway,all the above advice is good.
