You may not have needed an ECM, was the replacement ECM flashed for your VIN? This really sounds like a glitch in the BCM programming, as it controls everything your stated is going on, has the vehicle experienced any voltage problems, like main power disconnect or an alternator over or undercharging? A dealer will need to check it out and maybe it can be saved.
Yes, the ECM (Engine Control Module) controls the engine and transmission. The BCM (Body Control Module) controls the accessories and security system, which is what sounds like the problem is. Hope that helps! Jim
If the theft light is on, have you given it a thought that maybe that's the problem. Review the owners manual, available on-line, for a procedure to get out of this, or have a mechanic check this. Getting the engine running by bypassing the computer controls makes it seem like that's the issue.
