my truck is 2014 , engine light is on, fuel light is on gauge reads empty. if I fill it it goes off for 100 miles and then back on, think its a fuel sensor?

Any resolution to your problem Tom. I have a 2014 1500 5.7 and my fuel Gauge is doing the same thing. At 1st it was just the gas cap sensor that made the check engine light go on and off constantly. Now unless my tank is completely topped off the gage reads below empty and I get a "fuel sensor fail" on my messages. How is it failing if it reads a full tank but anything below full it reads empty... I'm thinking maybe my float is stuck?!?! Idk

Thanks for the reply, I'm told it's the float on top of my tank. To get to it you need to take the body off!,,. So for now I just keep it full, I also had a bad leak on the back window so I had to seal it with silicone , my is a 2014 1500 crew cab, last one I'm going to buy , iv had three in 9 years but no more.

I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 and the gas gauge wont work i put a new fuel pump and sending unit in it and still don't work so i dropped the gas tank and took the fuel pump back out of the tank and just plug in the fuel pump and the gas gauge will go to fill for about 20 seconds and go back to empty

I too am having fuel gauge problems. I have a 2015 1500 Long Horn that I just bought used with 48k. When I bought it the gauge said just over 1/2 tank. I went and filled it and the gauge was off the charts all the way down on the right, way past the full mark. Today I the gauge fell just below 1/2 a tank and the fuel light came on! What the hell is it?

I am told its a case of taking off the body to get to the area to fix it. this is my third ram truck , and I am disappointed in it, the rear window or roof light leaked so I had to seal that too. Not sure if I will have another one.

I have a 2012 Dodge Ram similar problems 2012 1500 big horn crew cab does. Anyone know if I can just take the bed off to change the fuel pump like u were able To with the 07 models

Truck504, yes you can and if it's a shortbed that makes it even better. Remove the ground strap, unplug the wiring harness, disconnect the fuel inlet and remove the right frame bolts from the bottom. Just slide the bed back while you work it over the wheels and there it is.

2010 big horn. I just put a new fuel pump in my gas gage says empty. Gage worked before I put new pump in. Don't want to have to get back in to it. Anyone have same problem. And to those pulling the bed easier so use a jack lower tank then. Took 20 min to pull it and put back.

2014 Ram PU, 51,000. Fuel sensor has failed. Dealers won’t do anything to assist with this known issue!

2014 Ram 1500 and have the same issue. What the heck is going on with Dodge? I used to stand behind them, but after being told this was a 600.00 fix (fuel float sensor) which isn't covered under a recall or the warranty, I think I am done! You would think when you pay that much money for a truck the service for faulty equipment would be covered.

Same two issues with my 2014 Long Horn: fuel gauge hasn't worked correctly for the last 2 years or so, and my rear window started leaking a few weeks ago. Luckily, I think I found the fix to the window. There are drain channels under the cables that control the center/back window. Cleaned those out with canned air (YouTube showed someone else doing it with an air compressor). There was a small piece of what looked like upholstery material in one of the channels so I'm sure hoping I fixed the problem. I'll know in a few days. As for the gauge, I just live with it, but it's a pain to have a check engine light on about half the time. Check YouTube for the rear window fix!

My check engine light has been on for awhile in my 2014 Ram 1500, today fuel sensor fail light came on & gauge went to empty even though tank is full. Anyone get an answer on what is going on?

I HATE MY 2015 RAM TRUCK. I SHOULDA GOTTA FORD . RAM looks great but I already removed the RAM head emblem from the tail gate and grill. next the side Ram 1500 HEMI is coming off. i will not advertise bad stuff. Im not expecting a recall on the fuel sensor. Next a bumper sticker that says " I shoulda gotta FORD". My fuel sensor $11OO, my driver side door lock $2OO, rear window leak $100, flood lamp burns bulb in a week -Rewire $100. I'm waiting for my dash housing to begin cracking and breaking off like on my first 02 Dodge Truck. I shoulda gotta FORD.

Everyone not wanting/unable to do the work themselves and not willing to dish $1k to get it fixed... please file a complaint online at: ncdsusa.org Ram does not issue recalls, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does and they need to be aware of this ongoing issue in order to put in a recall!! Let's get Ram to fix their ongoing issue for all our trucks!

Thank you, Nora. That's an excellent idea and I will report. For those with the rear window leak, blowing out the drain channel did NOT solve my problem, but removing and reinstalling a new seal gasket around the cab mounted brake light did. I purchased the seal on Amazon, and it was super easy to install once I peeled all the old/rotted original seal off. Anyone able to get answers? I get nowhere with Ram every time I try. “We looked into our system and can’t find anything” Anyone know how to start a class action lawsuit? I am so tired of this and they seriously need to pay to get it fixed. How much longer will they sell cars with faulty fuel sensors before fixing the issue?

I just hit 100085 km and my fuel sensor failure light went on and the gas gauge went to empty. I live in Ontario Canada and there is no recall on it however after googling the issue this seems to be a big problem.

Send report to : Nhtsa.webmaster@dot.gov This is a safety factor that should be a factory recall.

I have a 2014 Ram with 56,000 miles and my fuel sensor has failed and gas gauge reads empty. This problem should be on a recall from the manufacturer. Last Chrysler product I will ever buy. Any company that can't stand behind their products and allow this kind of problem to exist and not take responsibility for it should be publicly boycotted. I am up for a class action law suit also should anyone be interested.

I have a 2017 Ram Rebel and my gas gauge was stuck on empty also. I read online that the float could be stuck because of cheap gas, so they recommended putting fuel cleaner in the tank. I purchased a can of seafoam cleaner and after driving around 20 miles my gas gauge is working again. I'm going to start putting the expensive gas (ethanol free) in my truck from now on.

Wondering if these models have the stepper modules like the newer GMs do. Could be the issue

I had a 2015 Ram 1500 with a fuel sensor fail. Started at 65,000 miles. Now my 2014 is having the same problem at 69,000. I’m really disappointed and surprised that the part hasn’t been recalled. I think this will be my last ram. I’m even more frustrated that the part isn’t covered by the extended warranty I purchased. Wish I could get my money back. The part was a lot cheaper than the damn warranty.

I have a 2014 Ram 1500 with 59700 miles and today the check engine light came on and fuel gauge drop with “low fuel” on screen. The truck warranty expired about 2 months ago. From above comments, it’s looks like Dodge is not addressing the a very problematic issue. Dodge has a history of not admitting to problem with their vehicles. Last Dodge for me. Will contact Nhtsa.webmaster@dot.gov BJR

I have a 2014 Ram 1500. A month and a half ago traveling with a full tank and all of a sudden fuel sensor fail light alert comes along with the check engine light. Brought it in to have it checked and they told me it had to be replaced. $745!!! So I made the appointment, because with the check engine light on my remote start won't work. Winter is about to start here in the UP and I need that feature. Crazy thing is....for the last 5 days the light went out and the gauge seems to be working. Anyone ever have the sensor "fix itself". I'd rather not bring it in today and pay the $745 when this should be a recall issue anyways. Let me know if anyone has had it "correct itself".

That's exactly how my 2014 Ram 1500 started out, lights went on & off for about 2 weeks before they stayed on for good! I haven't had it fixed yet as in PA the sensor is still on backorder & have been hoping Ram would issue a recall before I have to spend the money to fix it!

Im suggesting all the people with same problems, work together as a team and go to the dodge and get it fixed, or like we will harm the name or whatever. It should get the job done. Take care

The typical cause of the fuel level sensor going bad is sulfur in gasoline corroding the silver contacts on the sensor itself. You can see this on the video GuruCWY26 posted above. My ‘16 1500 Sport started this issue at just over 60K mikes. I used a 32oz jug of Techron concentrate ($10 each on Amazon) in 2 consecutive tanks of gas and it fixed the issue for about 3 weeks then it started again. Maybe 3 bottles in 3 tanks would have done better. I may remove the sensor and sensor and soak in a bucket of the Techron to see if that removes more of the corrosion, if that doesn’t work I’ll just get an OEM new fuel level sensor for just over $100 on Amazon. Lately, several months after the issues came back, I’ve noticed my sensor seems to work a little better in colder weather, not sure why, but that may be why some posters think theirs “fixed itself”. Side note, you can clear the code and CEL for the fuel sensor failure, but a permanent code will remain; it took driving for a few weeks for mine to clear that code as the vehicle’s computer needs to see a certain number trouble free drives to clear it itself.

2014 Ram 1500 Sport, with 65K miles. Went to start up my truck this morning with the remote start and after a few minutes saw that my truck died. When I went to start it up with the key, saw that my fuel gauge was below "E" when just yesterday, it registered at half- tank. Also had a "Fuel Sensor Fail" message on my dash. Looks like I'm having the same issue, at the same mileage as everyone else. I've had several issues with my RAM and this is the last one I'm buying. Tired of this crap.

My Dodge ram has 35,000 km on it and a centre light came on I sure hope it is covered under warranty I even have the extended warranty crossing my fingers

2104 Ram 1500 Sport. 52,000 miles and “fuel sensor fail”. I used “Gumout” complete fuel system cleaner that worked throughout the whole tank, but after the next tank about half way through, but here the deal. I’ve heard some talk about using those cleaners back to back and that’s really bad on any vehicle. Most gasoline’s already have a cleaner. I was a avid user of the bottle cleaners every oil change until I noticed I was changing spark plugs every 35,000 miles. Don’t rely on the bottle cleaners for this fuel sensor problem

I have a 2014 Ram. Last October, the engine light came on and showed no fuel. Cost me a $1000.00 to get a new fuel sensor. A year later...same thing. Took it to dealer, and this time it's the BCM (Body control module) so it's going to cost another $700.00. what next????

I have a Ram 1500, 5.7, 4wd Tradesman quad cab. My fuel gauge is doing the same thing as everyone else’s. I fill the tank and the gauge reads full. After I put some miles on my truck the gauge drops below “E”. Chrysler wants to charge me $1,400.00 to repair because they’re telling me the full pump needs to be replaced. After reading all of these other complaints I think its a Ram Problem and not a wear & tear problem! I love my truck but I dont think I owe Chrysler $1,400, I think Chrysler owes me an apology and to repair my vehicle at no out of pocket cost!!!! Now back to reality... Can I fix it myself?

My 2014 2500 started this crap today. I’m 800 miles from home so looking at refueling every town I come too. Time to go back and buy a Ford I guess.

My 2017 1500 Hemi gauge broke in 2022...I just set the odometer every fill up and knew I needed gas when I approached 500 miles. Due to Emissions testing had to get it fixed in October 2023. Cost me $1,000+. It broke again in Februray 2024. Dealer fixed it for free again in March. 4 week later in April, it is broken again. Heading back to the dealer one more time.
