starter problem

Just brought a 2010 Avalon, with push-button start. Never had non-key start car before. When I press start button, whining sound, occurs, for a second, than car starts. This whining sound also happens, when exiting driver door. I thought it was starter going bad, but was told by dealer, this is normal. But, I had spoken with other drivers, who say they don't have this issue. Have I been sold a bill of goods?
