noise under car

Asked by coachpete98 Jan 07, 2014 at 11:30 PM about the 2010 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2010 Ford Explorer with 53000 miles. Recently I have noticed a noise coming
from under the car only when driving. It is not continuous, rather comes and goes. I've
looked under the car for anything that could be causing the noise but see nothing obvious.
Any help would be appreciated.

If it is not continuous and only happens when it is moving check the suspension first for loose and worn parts.

The type of noise could give you a clue. A squeek normally is the result of worn bushings. A rattle may indicate loose suspension parts of a loose mounting bolt on exhaust system. Klinks resulting when brakes are applied or while turning could indicate a worn stableizer bar link. Also a brake problem. Try to notice when the noise occurs. When striking a bump, turning, braking, backing, etc. It's possible to rule out things depending on when they occur.
