2005 Escape, 4 cyl. Check engine light came on, but OBD II scanner says "Unable to link" when connected. Scanner works correctly with 2002 Mazda Tribute, 2006 Ford Ranger and 97 Jeep. Any ideas about why? I did notice that the scanner (there are 7 of them) only align with 4 of the pins on the car (there are 9 pins on the car, and 4 unwired sockets.) The 7 scanner pins align with 6 pins on the Ranger.

when a scaner gets a unable to link ,1 out of date scanner,2 bad computer.

Thanks--that's kinda what I thought, but was wondering about the different pin arrangement on the OBDII connector in the Escape.

thank ford for that,to many hand held scanners out now.it was done to have to bring it back to the dealer ship to scan and get your money.

Got a new scanner, and it reads P0193, Fuel Pressure Hi Input. I'm guessing that means that either the fuel pump is putting out excessive preasure (probably not, the engine seems to run fine and gas mileage has not changed) or that there is a sensor that is bad and thinks that the pump is putting out too much pressure. Some quick searching pointed to a spot on the firewall, just below the ECM as the location for the sensor. There doesn't seem to be any adjustment on it. Not sure if this is the fuel pressure sensor or not. Anyone know any other locations?

that is the one,no adj on it,if u can put up with the light on,and everything is ok as u said,I would just leave it alone,that is a expensive part.
