Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had my car serviced today because the mileage was up for service. My check
engine soon light was also on. When I got my car back, the check engine soon
light was still on. How do I turn it off?

Generally speaking, the check engine soon light illuminates when the vehicle detects certain parameters that are out of specification. The light will stay illuminated until the vehicle detects these parameters are correct (you fixed the condition causing them) or until reset using a diagnostic tool. If you reset with a tool, and there is still an out of specification parameter, the light will come on again. When you had your car serviced, did they give you any feed back about fault codes?

Thanks for replying to my question. They just said that it was good to go. I was also in a rush so I just paid for service and left. Didn't realize the light was still on until I got home. It's part my fault as well for not looking closely at these things.

Maybe they did the appropriate repair but simply forgot to reset the check engine light with their scan tool. Stop by and have them do that, only takes a second, and see if the light comes back on. Ask for the code numbers too. Or if you are too busy, reset the light by disconnecting the battery a few minutes. But remember, that will delete the codes you may want to see.

Check engine soon light is not for changing the oil, it's a fault code, go to nearest auto zone or advance and they will hook scan tool and tell you why it's on, my was for pcv hose

My check engine light just came on. My windshield fluid is full and not working. Could this have something to do with it?
