Temperature gage is reading hot, but the car's antifreeze level is not low...

I have a 2009 Ford Escape XLT, while driving home from work, a couple
blocks from my house I noticed that my gage needle was all the way on H
and past it. I stopped and cooled the car down. I had someone look at the
anti freeze level for me and it wasn't low, but we put a little in anyways. I
started the car and drove the one block home and my car gage needle
steadily went back up to the H. Don't know whats wrong!

If it is overheating, did you check to see if radiator fan/s are running? If not, I'd check that. What about your thermostat? Any applicable trouble codes? Some of the national brand auto stores will check some codes for free. Could be other issues.

I have not yet checked to see if the fans are running, so i will do that! if they are running what does that mean? and i didn't see any codes but i also wasn't looking for one and thank you for answering!

My question is pretty much the same as Megan, I have a 2009 Ford Escape XLT, while driving home from Safeway I notice my car seem real sluggish when I started to move once the light changed. Then I noticed the temp gage is at *H* and a liffle past, plus the engine light came on. If I ask my Mechanic check the radiator fans and thermostat and do not see anything wrong what is your recommendation.
