Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2009 SL550

Background: (Last 6 months) 61,000 miles
Previously when closing the trunk using the trunk button the trunk would
close but not latch.  It would latch when manually assisted.  However, the
trunk would completely automatically latch when putting the top hard top
down.

Current:
Put top down and it will not go back up.  Trunk slow to respond to manual
open (press button on truck lid delayed trunk open).  Lift of hardtop is
functional when trunk is opened (It moves the hard top out of the way).

Accessory battery possibly (Hopefully)?

Have not had that problem with my 09 SL550. Have you checked the two switches on each side where the luggage cover goes? They BOTH need to be depressed and functioning correctly. Accessory battery is a real possibility - have it checked to see if it is holding a charge. Does your car have the trickle battery charger? If so, you can try that overnight. Lastly, there is a 'pull down' motor which closes the trunk securely. You may need to have an MB mechanic test to see if it is functioning properly.

Thanks for the answer. Do you know if there are different pull down motors for putting the top down vs closing the trunk using the trunk assist button?

I think the Top UP & Down motors are different. The trunk assist button does the same thing as the button on the drivers door. I have never used the RED "lock" button. Really don't know what that does. Do you have your manuals?

As for the auxiliary battery - if it is Mal-functioning, you will have a notice on the dash panel.
