Water in rear passenger floor board, Dealer says it is not a pulgged AC drain line

Asked by 1955DCJ Aug 25, 2014 at 10:22 PM about the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2009 Chevy Malibu water soaked passenger rear floor board. I took it to the Chevy Dealer for an oil change and asked them to blow out the drain line to the AC unit. They said it was not plugged and would look at the AC core for a leak, The AC unit works fine we are in Florida and it keeps the car very cold when in operation. What could be the cause for the water showing up in the rear floor board and not in the front floor board.

Does the wet water have a smell like anti freeze? If so, there is where you start to look. Does the water show up after you wash the car or it is outside in the rain? Rear windows down or rubber gaskets around the doors getting soft and need replacing? Do you drive it in the rain and is there any deep puddles you drive through? Next time the oil is changed, have them look to see it there are any holes in the floor pan. Is the rear window secure and no leaks? Water only on the floor and not seats or rear deck? The A/C line should not be inside the car, it's usually in the engine compartment.

After 2 weeks of rain, our '08 Malibu had water in the trunk, 6 inches in the tire well, as well as water in the rear foot wells. the rear window seal leaks. I can see air bubbles under the glass, where the seal has pulled away from the glass. I cleaned the recessed channel around the window, and caulked it with black latex w/ silicone up to flush with the body and glass ...no more leaks.

i looked into it , stuff from trees and stuff can clog your vent s on top by the hood and when it rains it goes down and blocks the drain hose and eventually the when you using your a/c the water condensation builds up like a dam and gets your under carpet wet if it has a coolant mix of coolant color then you got a leak most likely the heater core if its just clear water than its build up from a/c drain from being blocked from the vents the best thing to do is to use a shop vac and vacuum out the top of the vent wash it and do that a few times and then go und the car and find the a/c drain either put another hose to and it flush it out with a garden hose or use a air blower with shop air compressor and seal it and blow a few time then that should stop the water from the a/c from dam'n up the condensation from getting your carpet wet and should drain out the drain line like it suppose too .. other wise look for leaks

I have a 2008 Malibu water in front and rear driver side floors. If you have a sunroof, Check if it's wet above drivers door. My water problem ended up being a disconnected drain hose from sunroof! $700 quote from dealer but fixed it myself in 15 min! GOOD LUCK

I have a 2009 Malibu with water in the rear passenger floor boards. I’ve taken it in to the dealership a few months ago for the same issue. They said it was a leak from the door seal and they resealed it. However, I am now having the same issue with water in the passenger rear floor boards. No sunroof. Any answers?

I have the same issues. 2015 chevy malibu 55,000. Water on the floor drivers side front and back. Like lots of water. Not even using the AC at all.. Checked doors and AC and not that issue. Happened to me during my first 6 month of owning the car took it back to dealership. They had my car for 7 weeks. told me it was from the frame behind the dash board. UNREALS Spent 7 weeks of disassebmbling the dash, CRAZY and to the body shop. I went to see my car at 5 weeks and the entire inside of the dash steering was removed. after 7 weeks in the shop and a caulk job issue of the frame and body work i had the car back a month. Then i noticed a smell. i removed my flip flops from the back floor of car only to find the carpets wet again. BRUTAL. I brought i back to the dealer and the low balled me on trade in. in 8 months time ive owned the car they devalued my card in half. I paid cash for the car too. so for 8 months of driving the car and less than 10,000. miles i put on it and 7 weeks in the shop they offered me $6000. for the car. do the math over $6000. in cash to drive a shitty malibu for 8 months....

This must be an issue for recall. water leaking frame. it must have cost the dealer thousands to take the dash out and body work on the frame. the entire car was packed with the parts when i went to see it. Ayone else have this issue with chevy malibu 55,000 miles? frame is the issue.

The dealership FINALLY believes my water leak issue to be fixed. We’ve tried resealing doors, flushing AC, etc but they finally opened up the dash. They said that the tub that holds the water from the AC before draining beneath the car, well the bottom edges of the tub were separating so massive amount a of water was leaking into my rear, passenger floor board. They caulked it and no issues since.

hey yall, i also have a 2015 Malibu and it has been a night mare since i have had it. Now it too has the leaking issue. I have had it with this car. When i got it a year and 4 months ago i was told it had a clean record and warranty only to find out they lied. It was in an accident, no warranty and no spare tire.there also was a rotor issue and was supposed to be replaced in the first week only to find out it was never replaced or turned. Never again will i buy from this dealership and i paid cash for this car and now it is 5,000 less. i found that out after having my car for 9 months.

Have not heard back from dealer yet so i'm enjoying the rental they have me in for the time being. at least for 600. bucks a month cash i've paid on the value of my car i get to drive around in a new car. They don't want me to have them fix this issue. they better up the value of my car to $10,000 or i'm going to be pissed. If i lost 2000. bucks id be ok but not $6000. for the year. Ill bet the car will continue to leak even after they fix it. So im afraid they will say its fixed. I'm taking the car straight to the car wash the moment i get it back and going to run it thru 10 times. if it leaks i want it to leak right away so they don't tell me if screwed. Another thing i noticed from this dealer was that they put a date on my warranty that was from before the car was even made. this makes me think they knew of this issue with this car before they sold it to me and were hoping i missed it while signing the docs. LIKE UNREAL. water issues in the frame could be a recall. I hope they replace my car.

Please don't take the above YouTube link by Sam serious. Drilling a hole in the body of your car to drain water caused by another issues is not the answer.

It is if you wanna solve your problem without spending hundreds of dollars for a shop to find it. Which most cases, they don't... It's worked perfect so far, dry as a bone.
