Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 84 monte carlo ss and it is leaking power steering fluid.
Do I need to replace the whole pump or the lines or what? Every
other day I have to put more fluid in it because it leaks out.

If you can't tell where the leak is, replace the lines first. That's the most inexpensive part. If leak persists, then replace pump. If you live in the south, spray it down with some degreaser and let it dry. Then start car and see if you can narrow down the leak. You certainly can do it where I live.......instant freeze.

I agree. first clean the hoses and pump. Dry it or let it stand and dry. wipe it down to remove all accumulation or grime build up. Than start up the Monte C. and see where the leak is coming from. Turn the wheels left to right or right to left. Shut off the car and with a clean rag, wipe down the hoses first to see if the hoses are leaking. If not wipe down the pulley what goes into the pump. If that is leaking, change the pump and hoses. The cylinder also may be leaking, then you have a bit more expense to change that out.
