Leaking fluid

Asked by Aurora Aug 02, 2015 at 11:53 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my car is overheating, and leaking what
appears to be coolant. We have narrowed it down
to possibly being the radiator drain petcock, or
the radiator being cracked in general.. I bought
some sealant to see if that would temporarily hold
me over as the auto parts store that is within
walking distance of me does not have the
replacement drain petcock in stock only the one
on the other side of town does and I don't have a
means to get there at the moment.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what
this may be?

Everyone has their opinion about using radiator stop leaks but I believe in it because it has worked for me for a year now and no leak or clogged cooling system. Now I do agree with tennisshoes that it will clog up your cooling system if you use more then that is recommended. In other words if it does not work the first time do not continue to add more hoping it will work that is when you can clog up your cooling system. Do not know about other stop leaks but I have found Bars Radiator Stop Leak works great if it is going to work.

if your radiator was cracked you will see some slight steam rise from the radiator.
