I had to replace mine twice. Read on another website that someone used Velcro. Works like a charm for about $4.00. Easy to install, too.

Bought the 10 lb. pull, adhesive backed plastic Velcro to secure the upper, shallow storage tray. Went in place like a charm. It needed some force to separate the Velcro halves, so much so, that I ended up snapping off the lower functional latch. Cue sad trombone music.

OMG! I used the lightweight sewing Velcro. Sorry to hear about the demise of your latch. Maybe you could replace it with a small beer tapper?
