Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was told that you are supposed to change the oil at the first 1500 miles because that is th break in period and there is metal shards in the oil resevoir that a magnet collects is this true?

well most people dont do this, however, if i buy a new car i change the filter at about 1000 miles and then change the oil at 2000 (2000 miles is my change interval on my good cars 3000 on my hiway car) it is true that the 1st oil change is the most critical but you need to keep the "break in oil" came from the factory.. in it till 3000 miles, it helps to seat the rings, just change the filter with a good name brand filter, preferably a honda filter. and top of the oil with what is recommended, it should take less than 1/2 qt.. this is how i have treated race engines i have built and new vehicles i have purchased, i never had one blow up. hope this helped
