My 2002 volvo s60

Asked by GuruY7GDW Apr 05, 2018 at 07:45 AM about the 2002 Volvo S60 2.4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car keeps shifting itself into neutral. If I shut it
off and start it back up after awhile it will shift into
drive but kicks itself back to neutral. I thought
maybe it was electricle with the neutral saftey
switch but after putting a new battery in it didnt
help much. What's is going wrong exactly? And
also would there be anyway to bypass or a cheaper
fix than what would be if I took it to a mechanic?

You may have a bad Automatic Position Switch or Neutral Safety Switch, located in the engine, that needs to be replaced. This is a job that requires some knowledge and patience. I do not know of any method that can bypass the systems, sorry.
