what went wrong? What needs repair?

noticed that the rear end is low to the ground.  nearest dealer is 10 miles.  
would it damage any thing to drive to the dealer?  Shoule it be towed?

How low? Are the tires rubbing and hitting the wheel well? If not, you can drive it to the shop. A broken spring or rust on the body is probably the cause.

You have an issue with the rear air ride suspension. You can carefully drive it as long as nothing is heard rubbing.
