Steering noise

Asked by Jettabug Oct 01, 2019 at 12:22 PM about the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta GL Wagon

The steering  mechanism makes a slight grinding
noise when I turn the steering wheel in my car
either left or right when the car is running and at a
standstill but not while driving. I recently had the
car aligned. Could that be the culprit? For  awhile I
thought  it might be steering fluid but there is
nothing in my manual about this.

Check your fluid level before anything else. Aligning the car should have nothing to do with your noise.

Thanks. Fluid added, problem corrected.! It was funny that nothing concerning power steering was, n my 'VW owner's manual
