Ticking sound and smoking exhausts

Asked by GuruSM2V3 Jun 19, 2019 at 11:13 PM about the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta GL 2.0 Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My jetta Volkswagen oil light came on but the car
had enough oil in it. After a while it started ticking
and then smoke started coming from the exhausts
pipe so i pulled over. I looked at the hood and a
gush of oil came out from the bottom. Do that
mean i need a new engine?? The car didn't stop i
turned it off myself

1 Answer

That sounds terminal to me. The oil light probably came on because you did not have any oil pressure. Oil gushing out would mean it did not have enough oil in it don't you think?
