Would a turbo from an 04 Jetta 1.8t (gas, wolfsburg) be compatible on an 04 tdi (bew)?

Asked by jhall515 Oct 09, 2014 at 06:14 PM about the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta GLS TDi Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A friend of a friend recently did enough damage to his Jetta to warrant him giving up on
it and knowing that I owned one as well offered to let me pick at it if I needed anything.
Previously lived in Co now living in AZ. While in CO the altitude would cause my TDI to
go into limp mode from overboost due to my actuator having build up around it. Tried
BG 44K a couple times and ran the engine really hard to no avail. All mechanics since
have recommended replacement. Being in AZ now I haven't had any issues with the
overboost/limp mode, but I do plan on going back to CO sooner than later and need to
do something about it either way. I am now curious to know if I would be able to save
myself some money by taking his turbo since his engine wasn't damaged. Thanks
ahead of time for the help.

im preaty sure they are two completely different units. Do a visual check and you will find out on your own. you will most likely find the turbo is quit different looking then the one for your car
