What could be cause of dead #1 cylinder

Asked by GuruD9SSF Aug 04, 2017 at 11:54 PM about the 2002 Dodge Durango SLT RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a dead, low comp #1 cylinder. Have upper valve train noise. No oil in
cooling system and no coolant in crankcase. Under load, accelerating,I have
the obvious misfire along with, for lack of better terminology, popping back thru
the intake. I suspect a valve train issue. I sure would appreciate any all input.

Broken valve spring or broken rocker arm would be my guess. Pull the valve cover and take a look.

everything above is true but no one said anything about a Broken ring? but like you already see there is . to my things to pick only one, without tests, and eyes on good luck

check into the ignition coil pack is getting to weak to deliver spark on time. also may replace the spark plug (gapped correctly) and plug wire, distributor cap, etc..... all to help rule out ignition issues.

A broken piston ring will not cause valve train noise. His problem is almost surely related to the valve train.
