what you need to do first is get someone to assist you, Climb under the explorer and check that the main starter cable is not broken off, If all looks good get a test light and check that it lights up on the larger wire on the starter, If it does have your helper hold the key in the start position then check the smaller wire going to the starter, if it lights up and you have a no starter crank then you need a starter

Also don't forget to check your alternator, the starter won't do anything if the alternator is bad.

Sorry Kwik14 I will disagree with your advice, If the battery has 12 volts, the alt wont come into this situation ,Lambkenn stated the battery has a full charge

Yes but if the alternator is bad then the battery won't matter. He said he put full charge on battery which meant he had ran it down or had tried to start it multiple times and that will require the use of the alternator to keep the batter up w/o having to use the battery

long term, maybe the battery died because of the alt not working, Short term if he has 12 volts in the battery at this time the truck should crank, the obvious place to start would be the starter or cables

Steven I totally agree that he should check the starter and cables. I was merely saying that it would also be a good idea to check the alternator if all that was good
