Check the fuel pressure at the engine. It may be running but not pumping gas.

Are you actually on the starter not the battery?

Check the battery for loose or corroded connections. Also check the small wire going to the solenoid on the starter. These are known for corroding or losing contact and won't let it crank.

Do you have another key that is for this vehicle from ford? One cut at a hardware store will set the antitheft too.

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 minutes. Now hook it back up Now unlock and lock the door with the remote and then with the key Now try to start it with one key and then the other. If it fails then it has some kind of aftermarket system or the keys have lost there program for some unknown reason. If this is the case then a dealer IDS scan tool is needed for reprogramming. Make sure there is no out of place little red light any where below the steering wheel or a module behind the panel below the steering wheel.

Early model explorers have finiky anti-theft devices. Having to replace an ignition cylinder, I brought it to a locksmith shop who had the proper device to reprogram the key. Dropping off the vehicle I was told to return in about an hour. Returning three hours the "smith" was scratching his head stating he went throughthe reprogram prodecure six times and the vehicle would still not turn over. I asked him to walk through the procedure so I could see. We started with him approaching the vehicle. ----- What I did when I dropped off the vehicle is leave the window down and lock the door with a push on the manuel button. When he did is unlock the door with the key. Ford, having a better idea at the time, requires if the door is locked manually, then unlocked with the key, once the door is closed the electric lock-unlock must be initiated for the ignition to work. While it was seated behind the wheel I told him to electrically lock then unlock then try to start the car. Should have seen the look on his face. Give it a try, only takes a few seconds.
