Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2007 VW Jetta Wolfsburg MK5 won't start. It cranks over until battery is dead, but will not ignite. Verified I have fuel at the fuel rail (pressure) and can hear fuel pump engage when turning key. I get lights on the dash, and three beeps when trying to turn over. Checked for spark by removing coil and testing new plug outside of block- no spark. Checked for loose wires in harness leading to ECM. Checked fuses and tested relays, all pass tests. I have replaced crank sensor, tested and charged battery, checked timing belt and looked for any irregularities in engine compartment. Was driving fine and now won't start after parking it. Can't figure out what to do next.

Does your engine light come on when key is in position 2? Can you pull codes? Check for power at ignition coil plug in, not spark plugs. If you have power at plug and no spark, bad coils. If no power you can look to CPS or ECU. Multimeter helps in this area

Finally got to the bottom of this issue. After months of failed attempts, replacing fuses, checking connections, even having the ECM tested at a facility that rebuilds/flashes them to no avail. It finally was determined that the ECM was not getting power from the fuse box/ power supply. The ECM is located in the windshield wiper well under the windshield. The constant movement of the wiper arm running against the wiring harness caused an internal break in the supply wire that was not visible when inspected externally. Replacing the supply wire solved the problem.
