Do I need to provide additional support when changing the front subframe?

Asked by tlord1000 Dec 26, 2014 at 04:57 PM about the 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am replacing the front subframe.  I would like to know if the upper engine mounts are strong enough to hold the engine in place while chaning the subframe.

No, you need to support the engine with a cherry picker or hoist. You don't have to pull the engine just pick it up and get the weight off the subframe.

Actually the engine and transmission are not mounted to the sub frame on that car. The only part that connects to the frame is a small link on the back side of the engine that keeps it from moving forward or back. You can remove the sub frame without any additional support.
