Have 2007 ford escape that has a flat plate on the dash that states 4wd but I'm trying to figure out I'd it is really 4x4 or AWD I think it is awd but my friend who says food never made and awd escape

I kinda thought that too but I've seen other discussion threads that say it is set type of controlled 4x4. I've tried in the winter to break the tires loose with no success which makes me think awd
