Over heating / fan not kicking on

Asked by Carmen May 22, 2017 at 01:26 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hit front end and broke plastic piece by drain cock
off radiator. Replaced radiator, put in green
coolant. Found out I needed dex cool, flushed
radiator, put in dex cool, replaced thermostat.
Friend checked and said fuses and relays are
good. Coolant temp just keeps climbing while not
moving and fan not kicking on.

The fan will turn on at around 211-213 degrees. If the temp rises 5-10 degrees above that and the fan is still not turning on then it could be the fan itself or the temp sensor is malfunctioning.

Replaced fan today. It turned on with a.c. on, but only then and wouldn't shut off until we turned the car off. Thinking the sensor is bad. Gonna replace it tomorrow. Hoping that finally solves it. Replaced about everything else at this point.
