Power Steering Failure - Unusual

Asked by Chris Mar 18, 2020 at 06:37 PM about the 2007 Chrysler Town & Country LX LWB FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After driving home apx. 30 miles as I do every day (well, for now, given
quarantines starting), the power steering in my van spontaneously cut out as I
was turning into my driveway!  Thank God it didn’t happen on the interstate or
somewhere else; I was able to coast gently to a stop and turn off the engine.
Curiously, when I re-started the engine, the PS was back like nothing
happened.  Is this related to some sort of sensor/fuse/relay/computer issue, I
would have to guess?  Thanks in advance!  :)

Think carefully....did the power steering cut out first....or did the engine die??? When the engine dies the power steering will stop working. So which came first? Since the power steering seems fine once the engine is restarted....i'm guessing the steering is fine and rather you have some problem with the engine dying at low speeds. I have seen this problem in my town and country...it does it once or twice a week. I believe i need a new fuel pump...but that thing is expensive and also pretty high labor involved in putting it in. So, I am living with it for those reasons and also because I'm not 100% sure that is the exact problem.
