An engine doesn't eat up oil, it spits it out. You're pushing wet oil into the exhaust and that's fouling the O2 sensors and clogging the catalytic converters. If this has been going on for a while, look for a four grand repair. I'm surprised you didn't mention the lit up CEL due to a misfire.

Are you seeing blue smoke from the tailpipe? If so it's burning oil. If you only see the smoke when the engine is idling the valve guide seals are bad. Not a cheap fix but not terrible either. If you're seeing the smoke while driving or accelerating the piston rings are worn and it's not worth fixing. Burning oil will absolutely ruin the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors, among other things. Hope that helps! Jim
