'84 Fiero, 4cyl., automatic.

The car cranks way to long before starting. According to my timing light it's where it's supposed to be. Just mentioned that so you can rule that out. I've done a lot. What am I missing ? Also the car idles around 2,000 rpm as long as I will let it. Sometimes, if I let it run long enough and shut it off then start it back up it will idle around 1,000rpm. I suspect vacuum some what, but it doesn't really act exactly like vacuum. Any ideas, anyone ?

The fuel pump may be plugged up and require cleaning. Try changing the fuel filter first to see if it starts quicker. Check all vacuum lines especially the rubber connectors between the lines. Quite often they are cracked, lose or disconnected causing erratic idle. Try checking computer codes too. Code 35 is air idle control valve. Google/You Tube how to check computer codes on a Fiero. All you need is a paper clip!
