Battery light in dash board not working

Asked by Stephen Mar 22, 2016 at 05:35 PM about the 2002 Saab 9-3 SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car is losing charge in battery so I tested the
voltage output of the alternator (batterys new from
store) and found out that the alternator is not good
however i just realized the battery light in the dash
board hasnt been lighting up even when i just turn
the key.  Can that light have something to do with
the draining of my battery. I'm switching out
alternator tomorrow

Don't think so. That light turns on when your car detects it is discharging the battery. Switching the alternator will likely solve your problem but it sounds like you should have that light circuit checked as well if it has not come on with a bad alternator.

New alternator and battery still battery is draining fast and no battery light changed the bulbs in the dashboard and still no light.

When asking a question, always state the make, model and year of the car. For example some cars have a "mega fuse". It's not located in the fuse box. When it blows, it mimics the symptoms of a bad alternator or battery. You spend hundreds of dollars buying an alternator and battery when all you needed was a two dollar fuse.
