2006 Kia Rio 1.6L automatic transmission failure to start.

Asked by Justin Sep 30, 2017 at 11:34 AM about the 2006 Kia Rio Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 2006 Kia Rio 1.6L automatic transmission three
years ago. It currently has 250,000 Miles with repeated
maintenance repairs. Last night I  experienced  cranking &
starting issues.  The headlights flickered fast, then car shut
off & locked up with all dash panel icons illuminated. I have
already replaced the alternator two weeks ago, replaced the
battery one year ago, & the starter earlier this year of 2017.
I'm out of options without the expertise & service of a
professional mechanic.  What else could cause this
problem,  perhaps a relay or BCM fuse in the fuse box?

A cheap code scanner can give you an idea of where to look for possible causes, without that it's going to be a tricky problem as there are so many possibilities. My gut however tells me that it is possibly an alternator issue (even if it's only recently been replaced it is still my prime suspect), you may want to have a look at the battery voltage first as a duff alternator can quickly drain the battery.
