The car will start in any gear. Hard to shift the transmission in any gear. How do you adjust the transmission link if that is the problem

Start in any gear is a serious safety issue. Any automatic trans vehicle should only start in Park or Neutral (with foot on brake of course). A standard vehicle should have a starter lock out so it can only be started with your foot on the clutch (depressed all the way) or the brake. Please specify transmission type - Automatic or Standard and vehicle information.

Check the shifter cable that goes from the J gate shifter (in the car) to the transmission housing under the car. My XJR exhibited the same problems. Turned out the cable came unhooked from the lever on the side of the transmission.
