i have a 96 chevy truck my oil gauge reads between 60 and 80 when i crank it up and goes down to 40. when idling it goes to 20 is this normal or not

It only takes 8lb of pressure to keep the oil light off. I would have the oil pressure checked and get a true reading. Possibly a bad gauge but if it is that low I would replace the oil pump and screen.
