Back fire is a lean or rich fuel air mixture situation. Based on you description of no hill pulling power I would say you have a carburetor issue such as float issue but this year car is probably fuel injected ,unless changed at some point, which would lead me to say fuel pressure problem. Fuel pump and fuel filter is the place to start.

Sure. Generally timing will cause low power in a retarded timing situation but the vehicle tends to run smooth. Too advanced and you will hear pinging and could damage the engine. Do you have carb or fuel injection?

fuel injection and it does run smooth most of the time just i have no take off power and it wont clime hills and then the back firing but the is no ping sound
