Cranks in the accessory position

Asked by Tyler May 20, 2024 at 02:32 PM about the 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

At first my car didn't make a single noise or even
try to start at all then after I changed out the
starter, battery, and the ignition switch now it tries
to start but it's not starting in the right position of
the ignition switch trying to crank over in the
accessory position instead of the start position
and when I try to turn the key all the way to the
start position and try to start it it doesn't do
anything it only tries to turn over a couple times
and the accessory position so at this point I don't
know what to do so I need help?

This might sound strange, but it appears that the ignition switch and cylinder are a mismatch. Or, if connected through a pigtail plug, the wiring is different.

The lock mechanism has a gear on the end , It meshes with a rack in the column ( switch ) , If it moves and you put the lock in the wrong teeth you'll have problems . Your experience may differ . what problem were you having originally ?
