Cost varies on location and where you get the parts. Expect at least $1,500 with at least 70% being labor. Who is telling you that you need a new timing chain? They are not wear items on these engines and chain failure is extremely rare. Problems occur with the chain tensioners and guides on the 6th Gen maximas. Do you have a whining noise on start-up or during load?

lack of maintenance is the only time I've seen chains needing to be done on any nissans except the 4liters in the trucks that the secondary chains tensioners wear too soon. the labour if I remember correctly is 12-13 hrs. on the 3.5 liters plus parts
