Mileage problem

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey how's it going?  From your review, it looks like you really know your cars.  Just a quick inquiry maybe you can help me out with.  I have 1200 miles on my car and I'm getting roughly 280 miles on a full tank (20 gallon tank).  That equates to roughly 14 mpg, maybe 15 if I drove it to full empty tank.  Is this normal during the break in period?  Should this get better overtime or should I get this inspected?  I put gas with an 89 octane level and don't drive too aggressively.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

You would need to give more information like the year, make and model of the car for anyone to help you out. Also, you should double check that the octane level the car requires. If the car suggest premium (93 octane), then it could not only affect the performance of the engine, but also your mileage.
