Transmission not shifting

Asked by Stefanie Feb 23, 2016 at 09:11 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 LTZ 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Starting from a stop car is at 20 mph and rpms are bt 3/4.
In order for it to shift I have to back off the gas down to 2
mph. Then it will shift but not into 2nd shift. Running 55
mph with 4rpms and in 1st shift.  Changed transmission
fluids still n the same nothing in fluids.  Has 230000 miles.
Transfer case we did have to do a weld bc of a small whole
and leaking oil on the back of the truck.
Would the t case have something to do or is it something
else?
Oh and NO check engine light. Even had it tested to see if
the light was burned out.

The only thing you can try now is add some Lucas Transmission Stop Slip or there are other products that say they can fix transmission problems but I have used Lucas before and it worked for me. Do not over fill transmission remove same amount of fluid as bottle of product. If this does not work time to get some transmission work done.

Transmission, most likely. With those miles and weight of the vehicle its tired, salvage tested trans would be my choice.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but, not shifting from 1st to 2nd is a classic transmission problem, very typical. If you're lucky, it could just be a bad speed sensor. Look that up, and check that out. I had a bad speed sensor on my 1995 Honda Accord and it didn't shift properly, but, it was not the transmission. Good luck.
