I recently took my 2007 Santa Fe to a Hyundai dealership with what ended up being a ECM issue. However, before they figured that out they replaced my fuel pump and said that I broke it by cranking the car too many times without it turning over. Is that actually something that can happen or was I hustled?

They hustled you. The cynic in me thinks they believed the problem was with the fuel pump, when that didn't fix it they then (finally) correctly diagnosed the ECM and replaced that, but they're sticking you with the fuel pump replacement as well. The fuel pump energizes every single time you turn the key to "on", that can be thousands of times over it's expected life.
