Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2007 Santafe 2.2 CRDI, in Portugal. Nine months ago the engine light came on
and i took the car to the shop. The car was checked with GDS and according to the
owner of the shop no code appeared. Is this possible?

At face value, common sense would say NO, but you cannot rule out the possibility of a short circuit in the wires that run to the Check Engine light that turn the light on in the event of a code occurring. Was the shop you went to simply an "All Makes" type of shop, or a Hyundai Dealership? I would have the computer checked for codes by another shop first, and if the same results, start looking for a shorted out wire.

Thanks for your answer. The shop is a Hyundai Dealer for the last 20 years. I called them today and they are going to give me back 300 euros that I paid for the ATF replacement they did last week. The car is going to another shop specialized in automatic transmissions. Hyundai Portugal has written an email to me putting all the blame for any mistakes on the dealer.
