My suv seems to have a hard time getting in gear

I began noticing about a week ago, that
sometimes while im driving my suv will have a hard
time going into a different gear. Mostly while im
getting on the highway from the on ramp, I will
step on it and it will make a thud noise and take a
second before it kicks in. Wondering if anyone
knows if this could be a starting point of
transmission going or maybe catalytic converter??
Any help lmk please. AUTOMATIC tranny

Doesn't sound like a cat conv but could b a trans problem. Why not ask 2 or 3 trans guys and see if they can take it out on road and give u the same diagnosis instead of just guessing. If u hear the same diagnosis then u know. Remember they want ur hussiness
