Temp gauge shows van overheating

Halo,check if theres not any air in your water system to check it,remove radiator cap or water bottle,start engine and let idle,put the waterhose in the radiator while water is running,press radiator hose for air to excape and the water will fill the airholes,a mulfunctioning thermostat or a faulty temp.sender unit can cause it aswell.

Take an old radiator cap and remove the smaller rubber gasket. This will coolant to flow both way without allowing presume to build, but it will allow all air to exit fom engine. You can run around the block once - if it's a short block, but don't drive any distance with this modified cap on. That will tell you what's going on.,
