Is ok to use 20w 50 engine oil on my 2006 vw passat with 125,000 miles on it?

When I use 5w 30 my mechanic said the car is
burning it he told me to use 10w 40 but now its like
hot weather so he said 20w 50 to use all the time
is this right

It could raise oil pressure enough to blow seals so it's a risk. Did he not suggest to change your piston rings? That's probably where the problem lies

You should locate and repair the problem The oil pump in your car is a gear type and will pump almost any viscosity oil until the oil pumps so hard that the pump shaft or gears will simply break, that's not a lot of miles it could be as simple as a pcv valve

They don't cost much you can replace it in order to check it, remove oil filler cap put you hand over the opening have someone start the engine after about thirty seconds remove your hand you should hear a whoosh and feel air being sucked into the engine if it does pcv is ok.
