Sounds like the drivers door latch mechanism is faulty(sticking microswitch that doesn't recognize that the door has been opened, perhaps). A good scanner such as Rosstech Vagcom will be able to show fault codes in the door locks/ convenience system. The comfort control module also could be the culprit here.

As for fuses, the panels are behind the cover on the left side of the dashboard, and also a relay and fuse panel in the left side of the cowl. It's cover is held with several small (7mm, I believe) screws. Under the full length cover that's over the battery, cabin filter, and wiper motor. You're better off getting the system scanned for fault codes first, IMO.
