I have a dinging type of sound coming from dash and when I turn the headlights it continues louder.

Is the engine running and are all of the doors closed? Does it continue while driving?

Yes while I am driving and it goes off/on I did talk to a Very Nice service man @ a Volkswagen dealer he stated he thought it might be the door latch alarm(?) I did read in the manual if I continue to attempt to open via the remote it will have to be reset. This morning it did not ding/bing! We will see.?
