Have you double checked all electrical connections that you might have moved or unplugged to change it out? A loose connection could be causing your issues.

yes all connections are good . only disconnected headlights , fan . I pulled the rad support to get to the thermostat could I have screwed with an air bag or impact sensor? I have no manual for this car either which complicates the problem

Just for giggles I would try unhooking your battery for at least ten minutes. Sometimes resetting the system helps clear any code issues that might be present.

ya tried that still no spark. no diagnostic codes coming up on the reader. However I have an engine with a lightning bolt thru it and an ECP light on on the dash does that help?

Check out vwvortex.com. They have lots of info on your issues and the warning lights. The two warnings you mentioned could very well cause firing issues. Check out the forums in that web site. In no time you will locate the info to get you back on the road. Happy hunting and good luck.
